Seeking an Infant/Toddler Instructional Aide

Who We Are

You guessed it, we’re a brand new early childhood development center and we do all the things you think we do: we provide fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers through age three, and we engage their families in ways to be successful.

We are also pioneers. We believe in the power of the child to thrive and change the fabric of our community. To achieve this, we’re embarking on a groundbreaking partnership with our philanthropic partners, our families, and our local school district. Galveston Independent School District (GISD) will be our facility host and our shoulder-to-shoulder partner. GISD PreK3 teaches will be side by side our infant and toddler teachers. This is our city’s moonshot, from highly effective teachers in every classroom at every age, to play-based, hands on curriculum that scaffolds right into the public school system.

About the Role

We want architects of the future-the cream of the instructional crop to teach our infants and toddlers. Every child, every day, no exceptions. For us that means you will:

Build a fun, welcoming, emotionally safe, and learning rich classroom culture Teach a play-based instructional program that is aligned with GISD’s PreK3 curriculum Have fun working with other members of the teaching team to expose our students to the word around them in new and enriching ways Create and achieve clear, ambitious, and developmentally appropriate goals for student growth, development, and achievement Be responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of all children

What We’re Looking For

While we do have certain credential requirements, we are primarily looking for your potential to be a force of love and joy leading children in their exploration of the world. We’re looking for someone special and that means:

Getting Dirty: You’re excited by the idea of an adult-sized sandbox or getting flour everywhere in the kitchen while trying out a new recipe. Bottom line – mess in the name of fun and leaning doesn’t scare you. That means you’re excited to get dirty and laugh a lot while teaching outside in all types of weather and you’re creative and driven to adapt lessons to outdoor classrooms.

Family-focused: Our families are as diverse as our Island. You have a deep belief in the potential of all kids and a commitment to do whatever it takes to expand opportunities for students, often with a perspective informed by experience in low-income communities and an understanding of the systemic challenges of poverty and racism.

Positive Role Model: You are positive – never seeing anything as a problem but an opportunity to grow. And if you can’t think of a solution, you follow protocol to get the assistance you need. You are a team player – able to adapt your communication style to work with the many different personalities of both our parents and team members. You are a positive spokesperson for MECC – always displaying a positive image to our stakeholders and community.

Mission Fit: You’re passionate about early education. You believe that child development is more than just babysitting and that helping kids explore and lean at this age is critical to success later in life.

We are especially eager to hire individuals with backgrounds similar to those of the young people we serve. Multilingual and people of color are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

Our real value is in our culture. You’ll be tackling the hardest problem there is – keeping babies and toddlers happy, healthy, and learning -- but you’ll have near-absolute freedom to design the solutions. You’ll be supported and lead by a rock star leadership team and doing it on an Island oasis just 45 minutes from the most diverse city in the country.

Salary

We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package. Salary based on experience.
